Washing Green Woodpecker

September 21st, 2014

Green woodpeckers spend most of their time looking for ants in grassy areas; they have a distinctive laughing call but are difficult to see as their green colour blends in well with their surroundings. This bird came to the area of the pool three times before deciding to have a wash, something I have not previously seen. The pool was surrounded by tall grasses which made it difficult to get clear images, but opportunities like this are quite rare.
