Godwits

December 24th, 2016

This flock of black-tailed godwits was probably put to flight by the arrival of a bird of prey such as a marsh harrier. The wing patterns of the large flock in flight gave a spectacular sight. The total population of black-tailed godwits is estimated to be 600-800,000 and are classified as “Near threatened”. They were hunted in England in the past as a delicacy for the table, but today it is only in France were they still kill 6-8,000 annually.
