Lapwings nest on the ground in areas not cultivated or having short crops. The four eggs in this nest hatched and four chicks can be seen running around looking for food. In image 5 a worm has been caught by one of the chicks. The young birds are hard to see amongst the lumps of soil and have excellent camouflage colours. But are still very vulnerable to being predated by birds such as buzzards, the one in the image and two others were circling above most of the time I was there.
