These images of a male osprey were taken as it landed in a dead tree and preened itself before flying off to its nest. By 1916 ospreys were extinct in Britain, and were reintroduced into Scotland in the 1950s. Today they also breed in Wales and the Midlands and it is estimated that there are about 300 breeding pairs in the UK. Photographing ospreys takes a lot of patience together with a great deal of luck as they remain out of range even with a very big lens.
