Hoopoe Part 1

October 10th, 2014

This the first time I have seen and photographed a Hoopoe, and it is claimed that it is the only one in the UK at the moment. This bird spends most of its time probing the ground to extract grubs and larvae with its long curved beak. When it finds a grub it throws it down its throat. The crest on its head is put up when it is startled or feels threatened.
