Meadow Kingfisher

August 8th, 2015

I called this bird Meadow Kingfisher because to my surprise it appeared on a branch of a dead tree in a meadow where I was hoping to photograph a little owl. It is usual for kingfishers to perch at the edge of water, but here it was sitting in a tree in a field with no water in sight. It then proceeded to cough up a pellet of indigestible food while perched so close it was at the minimum focus of my lens.
