Diving red kites

March 30th, 2018

While waiting for an osprey to dive after a fish, a red kite spotted something in the water. He dived like an osprey to the water surface and in beautiful light plucked it out. This took place at Horn Mill in front of the new photographic hide. The red kite has a slightly longer wing span than an osprey, but is a lighter bird, and is a frequent visitor look for any dead fish in the water.
