Predators and Prey

The sparrowhawk is probably the most notorious of the small bird hunters. The jay has also acquired a bad reputation for stealing eggs and young birds from the nest and was killed by gamekeepers of shooting estates. The sparrowhawk kills small and medium size birds and uses its fast low-flying technique to surprise birds in hedgerows. It is equally at home hunting in town gardens where feeders attract a variety of small birds.
